First Stop! St. Joseph, MI

Following a two-day drive, we finally arrived at our first destination, St. Joseph, Michigan, Sunday, August 9, and had a full schedule for the week with my family. And if you know my family, you’ve learned our gatherings ALWAYS revolve around food and fun!

After an easy-breezy check-in at Eden Springs Park & Campground in Benton Harbor, we spent a delightful evening catching up, visiting, indulging in grilled ribeyes, and learning how to make homemade butter with the fam. You never know what you’re gonna get when it comes to my cousin, Brady!

The next day called for some pretty nasty storms, including heavy winds and hail, but we didn’t let that ruin our fun! We battened down the hatches on the RV, and began our whirlwind tour of St. Joseph. First up, we grown-ups enjoyed a little wine-tasting at local wineries, because wineries are so abundant in that area. The iconic Silver Beach Pizza was a hit for supper for both kids and adults, and then we ended our day with a sunset stroll on Silver Beach after the calm of the storm.

We kept super busy the rest of our week in St. Joseph with so many more awesome activities. We spent a day doing a little shopping, and of course, in true Rhodes Rules fashion, eating our way through the quaint downtown area. A day at the beach along Lake Michigan was a must, so we packed up and headed to Silver Beach to relax and swim. The well-known sand dunes at Warren Dunes State Park beckoned to the boys to climb to the top! Mom and Dad couldn’t handle the super hot sand, so we sat that one out and let the kiddos have all the fun.

St. Joseph certainly did not disappoint, and it totally set the tone for the rest of our Westward Expansion roadtrip!
